FoodShare South Carolina has been selected as a finalist for a 2023 True Inspiration Awards™ Grant from Chick-fil-A. We are so grateful for the support of the Chick-fil-A Five Points (901 Harden St, Columbia, SC) for helping us promote this amazing opportunity to launch a new program, Nourishing New Moms, a multi-layered approach to increasing food access and culinary skills for lower-income African American women during pregnancy with the goal of improving the health of both mother and baby.
Nourishing New Moms
Encouraging women to adopt healthy behaviors during pregnancy has the potential to reduce the risk of pregnancy-related conditions and complications. Healthy behaviors developed during pregnancy have the potential to be maintained into the postnatal period and beyond, improving the health of women, their newborns, and potentially entire families. Nourishing New Moms will include trimester-specific nutrition education, culinary confidence-building, and provide a support network program for African-American mothers in our community. The program will be educational and supportive of the prenatal and postpartum period. If fully awarded, the program will launch in early 2023.
