Volunteer

There are many ways to get involved with FoodShare by giving of your time, energy and talents.

Helping pack boxes, delivering food boxes to those without transportation, and coordinating ordering and pick-up sites all help us grow the program to meet the needs of our community.

Help Pack Fresh Food Boxes

FoodShare’s Fresh Food Box program helps hundreds of families every month gain access to healthy fruits and vegetables that they may otherwise not have available to them.

Additionally, packing those boxes is a great way to volunteer in your community and spread the FoodShare mission of Good Healthy Food For All.

Boxes are packed every other Tuesday. We typically start at 9:00 a.m. and will finish up before lunch.

Let us know if you are interested in joining us!

NeighborShare

We know that transportation can be a major barrier for some people in accessing good healthy food. The NeighborShare program involves being partnered with someone in your community to help them in placing their order and/or delivering their Fresh Food Box to them on pick-up days.

Become a Pick-Up Site

With requests for Fresh Food Boxes increasing weekly, having volunteers that will serve as official Pick-Up Sites is crucial for expanding access to our program!

Pick-Up Site Coordinators can be businesses, not-for-profit organizations (what we call Partner Sites), as well as individuals (what we call Neighborhood Coordinators) helping organize orders for a group of friends, family members, or neighbors. As a Partner Site or Neighborhood Coordinator you would be responsible for collecting orders and payment, picking up ordered boxes on pick-up days from the FoodShare SC Food Hub located at 201 Columbia Mall Blvd., Suite 113, Columbia, SC 29223 (near The Meeting Place Church) and bringing them back to their location for participants to pick up. Pick-Up Sites will receive one free large box if they submit 10 orders or more!

Be A Cooking Class Volunteer

We know that access to quality nutritious meal ingredients is only the first step to following a healthy diet. Preparing quality and tasty meals at home takes education, practice and encouragement and our Culinary Medicine classes can only operate effectively with the help of dedicated volunteers. Volunteers help with prepping recipe ingredients in advance, guiding class participants through following recipes, and with other duties needed to keep our teaching kitchen organized and running smoothly. Classes are held several times a week over the lunch hour and in the evening. If you are interested in becoming a Culinary Medicine Volunteer, let us know!
